Three colours, 13 stitches wide and a picture anyone recognises at a glance: this red tulip is made for a first go at tapestry crochet. The flower fills the top of the chart, the stem and leaves the bottom.
The stem is only one stitch wide. Rather than carrying green yarn across the whole row, cut it and rejoin it on each row, or embroider the stem afterwards in chain stitch.
In DK cotton the flower is about eight centimetres tall. Repeated on a narrow strip it becomes a bookmark; lined up along a long band, a spring border for a throw.
