Here is a little ghost for Halloween: a white sheet, two outstretched arms, two eyes, an O-shaped mouth and a three-pointed hem. Only three colours, so it is a good first project for tapestry crochet.
The chart is 14 stitches wide and 16 rows high, about 7 × 8 cm in fine cotton with a 2.5 mm hook. Read it from bottom to top, one row going, one row coming back, working in single crochet (US). Start with the three points of the hem, white on plum, then work up into the sheet.
For the eyes, I carry the black yarn inside the white stitches: the gap is only two stitches, so the strand stays relaxed. Same for the mouth, lower down: the black never skips more than two stitches. The arm row runs white across the full width: it is the longest one, so watch your tension.
