A red apple is the autumn motif par excellence: a big solid shape, a brown stalk and a small green leaf. It makes a bold, easy-to-read coaster.
The chart is 14 stitches wide and 13 rows high, in four colours: red, ecru, green and brown. In DK acrylic with a 4 mm hook, expect about 8 × 8 cm. Read it from bottom to top, one row going, one row coming back, in single crochet (US).
Red fills nearly the whole piece, so keep it as your main yarn and carry the ecru behind the work, especially in the bottom rows where the dip forms. The stalk and the leaf are only a few stitches: cut the brown and the green after each pass instead of carrying them along.
