An owl is recognised at once by its two big round eyes and its little ear tufts. Brown on a sky blue background, it makes a bookmark you will spot easily in a book.
The chart is 14 stitches wide and 15 rows high, with five colours, about 8 × 9 cm in DK cotton with a 3.5 mm hook. Read it from bottom to top, one row going, one row coming back, in single crochet (US). Start with the yellow feet, then the brown body.
The ecru belly is a block of six stitches: carry the brown behind it, it only travels short distances. The black pupils are one stitch each: embroider them with a straight stitch afterwards, which saves you two strands to carry.
