The sunflower is recognised by its brown centre ringed in orange and its crown of yellow petals. On a sky blue background, with its stem and two leaves, it makes a bright cushion or small wall hanging for the end of summer.
The chart is 22 stitches wide and 30 rows high, about 18 cm by 24 cm in aran wool with a 5 mm hook. It uses 5 colours, background included. Begin with the green stem at the bottom and work up towards the flower. The brown centre is wide: carry the yarn behind the work without pulling it, and keep a relaxed tension so the yellow does not pucker.
Read the chart from bottom to top, one row going out and one coming back, in single crochet (US). Work the two leaves with a short strand of green yarn, woven in on the wrong side.
