A butterfly seen from the front, wings wide open: orange, two yellow spots, a black body and thin antennae. The symmetry of the chart makes it pleasant to work, row after row.
It is 16 stitches wide and 11 rows high, in four colours, about 8 × 5.5 cm in fine cotton with a 2.5 mm hook. Read it from bottom to top, one row going, one row coming back, in single crochet (US). The black body is a two-stitch column from start to finish.
Carry the orange behind the black body, from one wing to the other: it only crosses two stitches, so the strand stays relaxed. The yellow spots are only three stitches wide: cut the yellow at each pass.
