The carved pumpkin is still the simplest symbol of Halloween, and it can be crocheted in an evening. Our version has triangle eyes, a nose and a big gap-toothed smile, with a brown stem and a small green leaf.
The chart is 16 stitches by 14 rows. The black face is cut out of the orange: watch your count on the mouth rows, where two orange stitches separate the teeth.
Backed, it becomes a coaster for 31 October; made five or six times, a garland to hang in the window.
