Every January in France, the galette des rois comes with a paper crown. This one is crocheted and kept from year to year: three golden points, two red stones and a blue one in the middle.
The chart is 16 stitches by 10 rows. Worked back and forth and then joined into a ring, it becomes the band of a child's crown; just add plain rows at the bottom to fit the head.
Kept flat, the motif also makes a pretty coaster for the day the bean is found. A strand of metallic gold yarn worked with the yellow will make it sparkle.
